Alex Pereira is the new UFC Light Heavyweight champion while Tom Aspinall is the league’s interim Heavyweight champion. 

UFC 295 Results: Alex Pereira (Brazil) is the new Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Champion, defeating former division champion Jiri Prochazka (Czech Republic) by knockout in the second round. The main event took place at Madison Square Garden in New York.

In the co-main event of the Heavyweight division, Tom Aspinall (UK) secured a victory in the first round against Russia’s Sergei Pavlovich with a technical knockout. Aspinall is now the interim champion of the division.

Main Event: Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka (Light Heavyweight Division) Alex Pereira has once again made his mark in the world of combat sports. The former UFC Middleweight Champion is now the Light Heavyweight Champion, becoming the ninth fighter in Brazilian UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes.

Pereira recorded a stoppage win over Jiri Prochazka in the second round. In the early stages of the fight, the Brazilian landed a devastating leg kick, and Prochazka responded with an attractive takedown, gaining control on the canvas. In the second round, Pereira stunned Prochazka with his destructive left hooks, causing the referee to intervene as Prochazka was on the verge of success.

Having been a former glory kickboxing champion in the Middleweight and Light Heavyweight divisions, Pereira has quickly made a name for himself in the world of MMA.

After the fight, in his interview, the Brazilian called out long-time rival and former UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya (New Zealand) to move up to the Light Heavyweight division.

Co-Main Event: Tom Aspinall vs. Sergei Pavlovich (Heavyweight Division) To become the interim UFC Heavyweight Champion, Tom Aspinall secured a first-round victory against Sergei Pavlovich. Pavlovich threw a powerful punch initially, but Aspinall, displaying courage, stood in the pocket and unleashed a series of strikes, leading to a KO victory.

With this win, Aspinall now holds a 7-1 record in the UFC and could soon vie for the Heavyweight Championship.

In his post-fight interview, Aspinall stated, “If you ever get the opportunity to do something and you’re scared of doing it, you should definitely do it because chances are it will pay off. I’ve never been as scared to fight a man in my life. But I’ve got a lot of power, too, and I believe in myself. This belt is dedicated to my dad!”
