The NBA is looking into allegations made on social media that Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey had an inappropriate relationship with a minor, league spokesman Mike Bass said Friday.

NBA spokesperson Mike Bass told Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill that the NBA is investigating allegations that Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey had inappropriate relations with a minor.

Supporting the allegations, social media posts with photos and videos went viral this week. The claims surfaced on Wednesday night when the 21-year-old was made available to reporters during the Oklahoma City practice. He was fully cooperative but didn’t provide any clarification when asked about the recent allegations.

Giddey responded, “I understand the question clearly, but I have no further comment at this time.”

In a follow-up, an Australian responded differently when asked about the case again.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault also gave a similar response, saying, “I have no comment on the personal matter, and I’ll have no comment on anything related to that.”

Giddey, in his third NBA season, has played 15 games so far. After making an impact with the Adelaide 36ers in the Australian NBL during his rookie year, the Melbourne native was selected with the 6th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder. During his rookie season, at the age of 19, he surpassed LaMelo Ball as the youngest NBA player to record a triple-double. This year, he is averaging 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.

The Thunder, with an 11-4 record, currently hold the second spot in the Western Conference. The team is preparing to face the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday, who are currently in fifth place in the East.
