Steven Smith did the thing he loves most in the world. Mitchell Starc did the thing he can not help but do. And Australia did the thing they’re  ever known for. A warm-up game that had shrunk to 23- overs-a-side still contained  plenitude of cons for the five- time ODI  titleholders. They were on course to beat the Netherlands until the rainfall beat them to the punch.  Having spent  utmost of the evening frustrated by the rain in Thiruvananthapuram, it felt like it would  nearly be cruel to ask Smith to  stay any longer.

Australia

Australia won the toss when play was possible and a man who has an  exigency justice  club in his  hostel room just in case he feels like  rehearsing a film or two at 3 am was out there opening the innings.  Smith has been conscious of upping his power game  recently, to the point that he seems to have bulked up these last couple of times.

The BBL witnessed this  stirring of gears first when he scored back- to- back centuries in January and a little bit of that was on show then as well. He launched three sixes and four fours during the course of a half- century where he was scoring at a strike rate of130.95, all while watching his  platoon- mates falling in pursuit of their own big  successes.

Netherlands

Netherlands  slightly get to play any justice with the top  brigades so while this may officially be an unofficial game, to them it was worth so much more. They have broken into a World Cup of just 10  brigades and they were only  suitable to do so because they dispatched the  formerly  potent West Indies. Logan van Beek( 2 for 35), Bas de Leede( 2 for 25) and Roelof van der Merwe( 2 for 12) presented the quality with which they were  suitable to get then, picking up six lattices between them.

Australia finished on 166 for 7, with earnings for those who’ll be manning  pivotal positions in their lower-middle order in the World Cup as well. Alex Carey was promoted toNo. 3 and he made 28 off 25. Cameron Green came in atNo. 5 and he hit 34 off 26. Starc  paraded out atNo. 6 and helped himself to 24 off 22. also someone just had to go and give him that  candescent new white ball.  Workload  operation has meant Starc has played just four ODIs in 2023, and just one in the last six months.

Australia need him with  further overs in his legs. He managed three, getting so  important banana swing that there was a moment- after he’d clean  sailed Wesley Barresi with a worldie that swung in to pitch on off refuse  also  scribed further to clatter into middle refuse before the  club indeed had a chance to come down- when he was like,” huh, so that still happens in one- day justice? Good to know.” Dude  still got a  chapeau- trick- lbw,  sailed and  sailed- before he was taken out of the attack.  Australia have an anomalous  team for this World Cup, with only one specialist incentive.

They are  counting on their big three  hearts to get lattices and  perhaps Mitchell Marsh, who got a4.2 over work out in on Sunday, to keep the runs down when  demanded. Glenn Maxwell’s form the ball will come as a welcome boost and whenever Travis Head is fit and ready he will be  suitable to pitch in a many offbreaks himself.  PS- The game was called off when  further rain arrived with Netherlands on 84 for 6.

Torrential rain and the match has been called off, it ends as a no result. But Australia did get everything they wanted from this exercise. Smith got runs at the top of the order and Starc  sailed with fire and  perfection with the new ball, grabbing a  chapeau- trick.

A many players were rested  fully and Cummins used the  occasion to test his reserve strength, with both  club and ball. But Australia did get everything they wanted from this exercise. For Netherlands, it was some drill, their bowlers did impress, but they’d have wanted more from their top- order, but they’ll learn from experience. That ends the first leg of warm-up games. We will back on Monday for another set of warm-up games for all the 10  brigades. Do join us for all the action. For now, cheers and bye.
